9/11 Matches by Smithsonian Rösterino, is a small cityscape produced by cutting matchsticks in a New York City restaurant matchbook. The cityscape resembles the pre-9/11 New York skyline, with the iconic ‘Twin Towers’ being the only two ignitable matchsticks left whole.

Each matchbook packaging features a quote* by U.S. President George W. Bush, from the period post 9/11, at the height of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, during the “War on Terror!”

The artwork is about dilemma. The owner has the choice to light them; to play god, to destroy art and burn a city to the ground.

*matchbooks are selected at random and yours may have a different quote to the one photographed.

The packaging is signed, stamped and dated.
Unframed.
Yours will be unlit.
